Reports of Big Trout and lots of Drum continue to roll in from the sound side anglers! From Hatteras to Currituck, there have been Trout and Drum being caught on both artificial and natural/live bait from kayaks, boats, and wade fishermen. Along with the Trout and Red Drum, we have heard reports of Black Drum, Bluefish, Flounder, and Sheepshead.
Fishing from the piers has been decent, with most piers here on the northern beaches reporting Spot, Sea Mullet, Croaker, Bluefish, and a few Ribbonfish. The SW winds have created some upwelling and cooled the water off the last couple of days, but it should improve towards the end of the week!
Surf fishing has been slower here in town this week with a few reports of Spot, Sea Mullet, and Bluefish. Down south on Hatteras Island, there have been reports of Pompano, Sea Mullet, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, Sharks, and a few nice Drum. Ryan Young sent in a photo of a solid keeper cobia he landed off the beach!
Offshore fishing has been spotty. One day, it’s lights out fishing, and the next, it’s a grind to scrap out a catch. That being said, we have seen reports of Yellowfin Tuna, Big Eye Tuna, Dolphin, Wahoo, and even a couple of summertime Bluefin Tuna!
