Friday August 11, 2023 🌊Catching Report🌊 The wind and weather has been all over the place these past few days but that seems to have fired up the drum bite. We’ve had a bunch of photos from our local charter guides on solid schools of drum in the sound and even some big citation sized fish ocean side. Keep in mind there have been some good catches off the beach around Oregon Inlet all the way up past Corolla! There continues to be really good trout fishing soundside along with sheepshead, spot, whiting, black drum and bluefish.
Surf fishing anglers have been excited to hear about the reopening of Cape Point earlier this week where we are sure the sharks, drum, spanish and bluefish are awaiting everyone’s return. Along with the reports of drum in the surf this week we’ve seen steady catches of spot, sea mullet, pompano as well as Bluefish and Spanish for those casting metal.
The piers continue to have consistent luck by the pin rig and bucktail fishermen on the ends of the pier with more King Mackerel and Cobia being caught this week. Spanish and Blues on Gotcha plugs, sheepshead and even some triggerfish have shown up on the pier pilings as well. Bottom fishing during the day has been sea mullet, spot, croaker and even have heard of a few trout.
The shark fishing continues to be great at night for those wanting to hear that drag scream, pier or surf any and all cut bait has been good.
We have fresh mullet, shrimp, sand fleas and bloodworms so stop on by and go catch some fish! Best of luck to all the local boats fishing the White Marlin Open! Trusted captain partner, Fin Planner, flew 9 flags day one! Way to go guys! We’re also looking forward to the local tournaments beginning with the Alice Kelly Ladies Tournament hosted on Sunday and the Pirates Cove Billfish Tournament next week. Share your photos with us!
